Long Description:The pussy cat Ribby puts on her shawl and bonnet and goes out with a basket, to the village shop to buy a packet of tea, a pound of lump sugar, and a pot of marmalade from Tabitha Twitchit. Beatrix Potter illustrates this in the book. Ribby has invited Duchess a dog to tea, and is preparing. Ribby and Duchess 'live' in Sawrey, and the building used as Tabitha's shop is in Hawkshead, only a few miles away.
In reality the building was the local solicitor's office, whom she married. Thimble Hall is the building almost opposite, used as Misses Pussy-cat's shop in The Fairy Caravan.
(Winter 2006) National Trust are renovating roof and building using traditional methods, and building is currently closed whilst covered in scaffolding and sheeting.
