The lock keeper pub is at the side of the Chesterfield Canal which opened in 1777 hence the style of the pub.
However although this pub is near a canal lock it is a large modern pub and hotel and the days depicted by the sign have long gone.
The sign itself is not at the canal side but on the edge of the car park near the main road.
