De paddelstoelvormige watertoren van het type D3/A met een cilindrische kuip zoals deze in Liers-Milmort en Vilvoorde zijn vervaardigt uit een smalle pijpleiding waarop een zware erkervormige kuip rust. Het verschil tussen de hoogte van de kuip en zijn diameter kan zo minimaal zijn met als resultaat een schijfvormige tank zoals in Mechelen-Noord. Zulke watertorens komen vanaf de jaren zestig voor.

The mushroom-shaped water tower of the D3 / A type with a cylindrical tub such as the one in Liers-Milmort and Vilvoorde are made from a narrow pipeline on which a heavy bay-shaped tub rests. The difference between the height of the tub and its diameter can thus be minimal, resulting in a disc-shaped tank like in Mechelen-Noord. Such water towers have been around since the 1960s.
