Miami, founded in 1907 as a copper mining town, is located approximately six miles from the older community of Globe. Rail service to Miami was not established until 1909 when the Gila Valley, Globe and Northern Railway entered the area. This rail line saved the miners a six mile walk from Globe to their work in Miami. The rail station still sits beside it's rail spur, some several hundred feet from the still operating Eastern Arizona line. Across the tracks is the old freight station. The entire area is fenced off.
