The Fauna sign has photographs of 15 of the common fish of the Orara River (over 20 species of fish are found in the Orara River), along with the following text:

* "Most fish here are less than 10cm long, but the largest, the Eastern Freshwater Cod, reaches 65cm long and 5kg in weight. The Eastern Freshwater Cod and Ornate Rainbowfish are endemic to this area. The Australian Bass, Empire Gudgeon and Common Jollytail migrate to estuarine parts of the Clarence River.

* "All native fish in the Orara River need mixed habitats to provide food, places for breeding, nursery areas, and shelter from predators and floods. Poor riverbank vegetation, weeds, erosion and the removal of gravel all create poor fish habitat effecting river health.

* "HOW CAN YOU HELP THE FISH??

* Keep the river clean - no litter or chemicals
* Keep the riverbank stable - with native vegetation
* Remove weeds - native plants are best
* Keep the river natural - no altering of the riverbank
* Fish need snags - keep logs in the river to provide good habitat
* Only pump out water when river flows are high
* To find out more contact your local council or Landcare office

* Check your NSW recreational fishing guide before fishing
