Born in 1862 near Machynlleth Rhys J. Huws was an independent minister, poet and teacher.

He was the minister for Bethesda chapel between 1905 and 1912.

He was instrumental in the establishment of the children's eisteddfod.

The plaque is Welsh language only and the text reads.
