Nathaniel's gravestone lies right next to his son Ezra's stone. Ezra is also a Revolutionary War veteran. They are buried in the Morgan Township Cemetery in Ashtabula County, Rock Creek, Ohio.

Nathaniel and his son Ezra were among the 21 Connecticut soldiers with the last name "Griffin" who fought in the Revolutionary War (1775-1783).
