"Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux Church in Strasbourg is located in Place Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux, at the end of the rue du 22-Novembre and the Grand' rue in the historic centre of the city.

The part of the church on the street side of 22 November is used for Catholic worship, while the part overlooking the Grand Street is used for Protestant worship.

The building has been listed as a historic monument since 18 December 1981.

History
It was in 1130 that his name was first mentioned publicly. Built along one of the city's most important Roman roads, the Strata Superior, the church contains some vestiges dating back to the Merovingian period.

The Gothic building, of which there are still some remains, was built in 1382.

In 1529, the church passed into the Lutheran fold.

In 1683, two years after the conquest of Strasbourg, Louis XIV ordered the return of the church choir to the Catholics, and had a wall built at the rood chamber to limit Protestant worship in the nave. This separation is opened by a door on October 12, 2012.

Two centuries later, the increase in the number of faithful forced the religious authorities to consider the extension of the Catholic Church. The architect Conrath took charge of this site in 1867. The new building is built perpendicular to the first church.

According to a local oral tradition, part of the relics stored in the sacristy are those of Saint Brigid.

Decoration
The church has a number of classified objects:
- Scenes from the life of St-Pierre, panels engraved on lime wood by Veit Wagner and coming from the altarpiece of the 15th century choir.
- A set of paintings on the Passion of Christ, by Henri Lutzelmann that are in the choir.
- A Way of the Cross.
- Four paintings of the scene of Christ's life after the resurrection."
