A large stone which could easily be missed located on a new recent footpath, which was created around an expanding mine.
There is a circular walk around the mine workings and the stone is located on the south west corner of it.
The stone overlooks Plymouth city and Plymouth Sound and it is thought to have been used as a navigational aid at that time.
Markings on the stone include- HT 1862 THE SEA LEVEL AT THIS PLACE 582 FEET with the bench mark underneath.
