Stone lantern in the Japanese Garden of the "Planten un Blomen" Park
On 27 October 1992 a 'Partnership Agreement' was signed between the ports of Yokohama and Hamburg. According to this agreement, the Port of Yokohama, Japan, and the Port of Hamburg, Germany, have developed a friendly relationship and intend to promote the development of trade and economic cooperation between the two ports. The Port of Yokohama and the Port of Hamburg are the largest ports in their respective regions. They have state-of-the-art facilities for all types of cargo and see great development potential for expanding trade and other economic contacts between the two ports. According to the agreement, the relationship as partner ports should contribute to an improved international understanding and to the promotion of international trade.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the port partnership in 2002, Lord Mayor Hiroshi Nakata had a stone lantern in his luggage as a present to the people of Hamburg.
