[FR] La porte Saint-Denis a été érigée en 1672, sur le boulevard à l'emplacement de l'enceinte de Charles V par l'architecte François Blondel (1618-1686) et le sculpteur Michel Anguier . Leurs concepteurs ont puisé leur inspiration à la source des arcs romains, sur ordre de Louis XIV, en l'honneur de ses victoires sur le Rhin et en Franche-Comté. C'est un vestige, comme la Porte Saint Martin, conformément au souhait de Colbert d'élever des portes, monumentales entre la ville et les faubourgs.
