Located just inside the door of the Civilian Conservation Corps Museum and Memorial at Highlands Hammock State Park is a rolling book exchange. This book exchange is primarily for park visitors and campers who utilize the campground in the park. However museum docents tell us that locals travel to the park to use it also, some arriving by golf cart.
When the Park Services Specialist was introduced to the LFL program at an environmental education workshop, she knew immediately that Highlands Hammock State Park should have one. A park volunteer with exceptional woodworking skills built the library as a replica of an historic park pavilion constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. A second skilled volunteer designed and built the stand complementing the library perfectly. General selection for adults and children and nature-themed.
This book exchange is available to anyone, its free, donated books are accepted. Note that due to the location of the book exchange it is only available if the museum is open. Hours vary due to volunteer staff availability. On average hours are daily 9:00 am till 5:00 pm Park hours 8:00 am to sunset
