Bar Harbor gets it's name from the sandbar that connects the Town of Bar Harbor to Bar Island, which is part of Acadia National Park. A you-are-here map is located at the beginning of the Bar Island Path.

You have two hours after low tide to hike and explore the bar. The tide comes in fast and you could be stranded if you are not mindful of the time.
