Bartokpark 1.0. In maart 2012 lag er op de kop van de Kortestraat en de Kleine Oord nog een naargeestig braakliggend terrein. Nadat de ontwikkelingen van het BK40 complex vlak na de sloop van de Bartokzaal enkele jaren tevoren waren komen stil te liggen bleef de omgeving zitten met een rotte kies. Als beëindiging van de winkelstraat en tegenover het toen in aanbouw zijnde Rozet en hotel was de plek een doorn in het oog van ondernemers en omwonenden, maar door de economische situatie en de verschillende belangen van gemeente en grondeigenaar leek deze situatie zich nog jaren te kunnen voort zetten. DTO zag echter kansen voor deze plek en ontwierp samen met buro Harro het Bartokpark, een mini stukje veluwe. Vrijwel direct waren alle betrokkenen zeer enthousiast en binnen slechts 3 maanden tijd was het openbare mini-park gerealiseerd. In de daarop volgende zomer werd al snel duidelijk dat de Arnhemmers deze plek waardeerden, met regelmaat wordt het parkje door omwonenden en stadsbezoekers gebruikt als plek om te luieren en te spelen.
Bartokpark 2.0. Eind 2012 kwam kunstenaar Florentijn Hofman min of meer bij toeval langs het Bartokpark tijdens zijn zoektocht naar een geschikte locatie voor het beeld dat het 100-jarige Burgers zoo aan de stad wilde schenken. De aanvankelijk gedachte locaties vormden geen meerwaarde voor zijn beeld, maar bij de aanblik van het glooiende heidelandschap wist hij direct; dit is de plek! En na een eerste instantie wat terughoudende reactie van opdrachtgever en gemeente werd uiteindelijk iedereen steeds enthousiaster. Sterker nog, in de uitwerking van de plannen werd het park zelfs vergroot en kon het feestaardvarken zich heerlijk in het landschap nestellen. Eind april 2013 werd de uitbreiding van het park gerealiseerd en eind juli werd het beeld worden geplaatst. Het succes van Bartokpark 1.0 werd voortgezet en in geen tijd veroverde het Feestaardvarken niet alleen een plek in de stad maar verscheen het Bartokpark op de cover van talloze boekwerken waaronder het Jaarboek Landschapsarchitectuur 2013.

Bartokpark 2.0. At the end of 2012, artist Florentijn Hofman visited the Bartokpark more or less by chance during his search for a suitable location for the sculpture that the 100-year-old Burgers zoo wanted to donate to the city. The originally conceived locations did not add value to his sculpture, but when looking at the rolling heath landscape, he immediately knew: this is the place! And after an initial hesitant reaction from the client and the municipality, everyone became more and more enthusiastic in the end. In fact, in the development of the plans, the park was even enlarged and the party horsepig could nestle wonderfully in the landscape. At the end of April 2013 the expansion of the park was realized and at the end of July the statue was placed. The success of Bartokpark 1.0 was continued and in no time the Feestaardvarken not only conquered a place in the city but the Bartokpark appeared on the cover of numerous books including the Yearbook Landscape Architecture 2013.

Enorm kunstwerk
Het 30 meter lange, 9 meter hoge en 12 meter brede Feestaardvarken is opgebouwd uit een stalen skelet met een betonnen huid, samen goed voor 150.000 kilo. Het werd in vier maanden gebouwd onder leiding van Job Saltzherr van Job Art op de bouwlocatie RhineTech op Industriepark Kleefse Waard (IPKW). De keuze voor beton als huid van het Feestaardvarken lag volgens Florentijn Hofman voor de hand. “Een zeer kenmerkend materiaal voor Burgers’ Zoo als je denkt aan de grote rotsen en gewelven in het dierenpark”.
De feestelijke onthulling van het Feestaardvarken vond plaats op donderdag 12 september om 16.00 uur in het Bartokpark, samen met de Arnhemmers, wethouder Michiel van Wessem en stadsdichter Jesse Laport & bassist Olivier Capiau. Veel Arnhemmers waren aanwezig!
