"As in many Berlin train stations, Ostbahnhof has undergone several name changes and was originally opened as Frankfurter Bahnhof as the terminus of the line to Frankfurt / Oder (the smaller of the two Swiss francs). German)

Cependant, suite à la renunification, ce nom n’était plus approprié, la gare n’étant pas très centrale, une nouvelle gare centrale était prévue sur le site de l’ancien Lehrter Bahnhof. En 1998, ce nom a été transféré à Ostbahnhof.
Suite au changement d’horaire de mai 2006, Ostbahnhof - ainsi que Zoo Station - a perdu une grande partie de son trafic interurbain au profit de la nouvelle Berlin-Hauptbahnhof. "

Im Jahr 1852, nach der Verstaatlichung durch den preußischen Staat von dieser Zeit wurde es Schlesischer Bahnhof (bezogen auf die schlesische Region, südöstlich von Berlin, im heutigen Polen) umbenannt.
Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde der Bahnhof in Ostbahnhof umbenannt, auch weil Schlesien kein Hauptziel mehr war. Dieser Name dauerte bis 1987, als die DDR-Regierung beschlossen, im Rahmen der Feierlichkeiten zum 750. Jahrestag (Ost-Berlin), seinen eigenen Hauptbahnhof ( „Hauptbahnhof“ zu schaffen - der Hauptbahnhof in den meisten Deutsche Städte) und benannte es ebenfalls um.
Nach der Wiedervereinigung war dieser Name jedoch nicht mehr angebracht, der Bahnhof liegt nicht sehr zentral, ein neuer Hauptbahnhof wurde auf dem Gelände des ehemaligen Lehrter Bahnhofs geplant. 1998 wurde dieser Name auf den Ostbahnhof übertragen.
Nach dem Fahrplanwechsel im Mai 2006 hat der Ostbahnhof - ebenso wie der Zoo - einen Großteil seines Fernverkehrs auf den neuen Berliner Hauptbahnhof verloren. "
