Leon Katz Tennis Courts
These tennis courts are named in recognition of the extensive community service of
Leon Katz, O.C., O. Ont., P. Eng/ing.
A volunteer, decorated veteran, then pioneering bio-medical engineer, Leon Katz invented a wide range of medical devices, including Canada's first fetal heart monitor, infant incubators, and heart-lung bypass pumps for open heart surgeries.
In 1973, Katz joined Health Canada, where his discovery of the back flow hazard from non-sterile, evacuated blood collection tubes resulted in national and international legislative changes.
For his tireless contributions to the international community, Katz was awarded the Officer level of the Order of Canada, Order of Ontario, "Member Emeritus of the CMBES, "Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada the "Living Legend" award from the World Society of Cardio-Thoracic Surgeons, and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal.

Bénévole et ancien combattant décoré avant de devenir un pionnier de l’ingénierie biomédicale, Leon Katz a inventé une vaste gamme d’instruments médicaux, dont le premier moniteur fœtal au Canada, des couveuses et des pompes de circulation extra corporelle pour les opérations à coeur ouvert.
En 1973, M. Katz s’est joint à Santé-Canada, ou sa découverte des risques de refoulement inhérents aux tubes de prélèvement du sang à vide non-stériles a entrainé des changements législatifs au Canada et dans le monde entier.
Pour son inlassable travail dans la communauté internationale, M. Katz a été nommé officier de l’Ordre du Canada, membre de l”ordre de l’Ontario, membre émérite de la SCGB et membre de l’Institut canadien des ingénieurs.
Il a également reçu le titre de « légende vivante »de la Société internationale des chirurgiens cardio-thoraciques ainsi que la Médaille du jubilée de diamant de la reine.
