This gazebo is named in recognition of the excellence, courage and exceptional service of

George Watson

George W. Watson (1919-2014) joined the Canadian Army in 1940, at the age of 21. Following his training, he was posted to the 1st Special Services Force. This joint elite American-Canadian Unit, later referred to as the "Devil's Brigade" was known for carrying out particularly dangerous and arduous assignments.

George served in Italy, joining Operation Husky. Towards the end of the war, George was wounded by shrapnel and honourably discharged. In recognition of his contributions, George was awarded several medals of honour, bravery and distinction.

After settling in Ottawa, George spent the last thirty years of his life as a resident of Heart's Desire.

George a servi en Italie, ou il a participé à l’Opération Husky et à la libération du pays par les Alliés. Vers la fin de la guerre, blessé par un éclat d’obus, il a été libéré honorablement. En reconnaissance de ses contributions, il a reçu plusieurs médailles d’honneur, de bravoure et de distinction.

George est venu s’installer à Ottawa ou il a passé ses trente dernières années dans le secteur de Heart’s Desire.
