This Bank of America that was in the news is located at the NW corner of Pennsylvania Ave. and W. Memorial Rd. The drive-thru is located on the west side of the building, and the lobby parking is on the south side.
Metro customers have been targets of stalking/stealing money from customers who leave banks, and two of these incidents originated from this bank branch.

Police are trying to find the people responsible for possibly following several bank customers from their banks to their next destination and stealing hundreds of dollars they withdrew from their vehicles.

It’s happened six times this year, with the most recent cases happening on April 22, 23 and 24.

Two cases happened at the Bank of America at Penn and Memorial and a third case happened at the Chase Bank near S. Penn and I-240.

“They knew I had money in there and they knew right where the money was, opened the glove compartment, closed back down and gone,” Roy Wallace told News 4.

Wallace said it all happened so fast.

“I was getting ready to go on a trip to Cancun. So, I was going to get some money, spending money for tips and stuff like that,” he said.

Wallace said he withdrew $500 from his account at Bank of America, left the bank with the cash in an envelope and placed it inside his glove compartment.

“Get on the turnpike, and get off on Portland,” said Wallace. “Go between Meridian and MacArthur to the doctor’s office to pick something up.”

When he returned to his car just minutes later, Wallace told News 4 he was greeted with an unpleasant surprise.

“I walk out. I walk about 10 steps and I see the car with glass everywhere and I knew exactly what happened,” Wallace said.

Wallace thinks he was followed from the bank to his doctor’s office. It’s a feeling each victim of this crime spree has shared.

“It’s something that we really haven’t seen much of before, but recently we have seen a spike in this,” MSgt. Gary Knight with the OCPD said. “These people are being followed, and then their cars are being burglarized.”

Wallace said he doubts he gets his money back, but he’s hoping his story might keep the crooks from striking again.

“I’ve been telling people the story and they say, oh my gosh, that’s what I do, and they say, I won’t do that again. I want people to know, don’t do what I did. Put it in your pocket and maybe drive around a little bit,” Wallace said.

If you think you might have information that could help police crack this case, call OCPD Crime Stoppers at (405)235-7300.
