Large postal facility was built in 1914 to handle the mail loads for Walker Distillery and the nearby community of Walkerville. The Ford Motor Company later established an automotive plant, which contributed to the high volume of mail.

With the closure of the Ford car body plant and the evolution of alternate methods of communication, volume fell off markedly by the 1990's. The building was closed as a postal facility, sold to private interests, and now houses legal offices.
