Along the northern edge of Manville Veterans Common, one of the Crimson Maples dedicated to fifteen village residents who were casualties of war is slowly devouring a park bench and a chain. The grove of trees was dedicated on June 14, 1992 according to a stone marker -- though it is not clear if that was when they were planted or when the bench was shackled to the tree.

The tree appears to be getting strangled by the chain about two feet above the ground, with most of the links firmly held in by overgrowth. The bench, made of wood planks and cast iron legs and arms, is also being consumed. The left armrest has cracked and broken apart from the pressure of the tree's grip.

Type of Tree: Crimson Maple
