The Vernon Arms is a free house located on the corner of Dale Street and Vernon Street, situated close to the business district in Liverpool city centre.
The pub was a tied house of the Liverpool Brewing Co (1990-2004). Three modern etched windows on the side elevation survive with lettering: 'LIVERPOOL BREWING COMPANY'. Also a Tetley lantern over the corner door.
The hanging pub sign depicts the Vernon Coat of Arms in blue on a pale blue background with the name in blue lettering beneath.
"The Vernon was reopened by Jimmy Monaghan back in 2008, after a very successful spell running a pub down the road, which Jimmy turned into a favourite pub of students. When he decided to move on Jimmy wanted a fresh challenge and decided that the Vernon Arms was the right one for him. One of the things that attracted Jimmy to the Vernon was the 6 real ale pumps that the pub had – Jimmy has always supported Camra’s campaign for real ale and has won quite a few awards from them since he re-opened the pub – and the history of the bar itself." The Vernon Arms retains the feel of a street-corner local. There is a single long-roomed bar that serves three drinking areas including a back room with frosted glass windows advertising the Liverpool Brewing Company which used to serve the pub.
The main bar has wood panelling, several large columns and a small snug area.
Meals are served at lunch time.
Sport can be watched on TV and there is live music on a Friday and Saturday night.
