DIE GESTAPO TRIER

"On May 5, 1933, the secret state police (Gestapo) in Trier took up her job. Until October 1935, she had her seat in the old government building on the main market, but then moved it in the Reichsbahndirektionsgebäude in christophstrasse 1.
After bombings in 1944, the service moved to Olewig and was finally evacuated to Christmas 1944 after further war damage to Zeltingen.
The Gestapo trier initially consisted of officials seconded from other cities (eg Berlin, Cologne). Their staff was composed of criminal and administrative officials of the higher service. Members of the SS and SA were also used as auxiliary police.
In October 1934 the Gestapo counted in trier 29, in March 1937 already 103 civil servants and employees, of whom 84 were in the field.
The Gestapo Trier planned and coordinated the deportations of Nazi opponents to the nearby Concentration Camp. Many of the persons detained there were murdered.

After the occupation of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in 1940, many civil servants were seconded to the "Einsatzkommando Luxemburg" (eKL). That is why in 1941 only 87 civil servants and employees worked for the Gestapo trier. The head of the department in trier was also the head of the eKL.
In order to monitor the population, the gestapo used so-called "V-people" who worked mostly for a fee, but were often forced to participate. For the period from 1937 to 1945, at least 122 people can be found. These were always used where the Gestapo suspected resistance to Nazism. If a person was denounced by a V-man during the interrogation, the Gestapo could immediately take them to "protective" or even murder them. Legal assistance was mostly denied to the victims."
