Double sculpture with the title "Children with foals" on the love island in the city park lake.
The sculpture:
The double sculpture of shell limestone created in 1925 by the Hamburg sculptor Hans Waetke stands on the idyllic island of love in Hamburg's city park see.
It shows a child embracing a horse foal. The view of the sculptures is directed to the lake, so that one can catch the best view of the sculptures actually only with a boat trip.
The artist:
Hans Waetcke was born on 2 October 1888 in Altona. After attending the Altona School of Applied Arts he continued his education in 1907-1909 in Berlin with Ignatz Taschner and in Munich with Adolf von Hildebrand. From 1912 he lived as a freelance artist again in Altona. Before 1933 he was a member of the Hochschule der Künste and the group "Niederelbe", later of the Berufsverband der Bildenden Künstler. He made portraits of smooth surfaces, gravestones, fountains, animal sculptures, building ornaments and ceramics and formed his figures according to classical models, balanced and symmetrical in the layout. Hans Waetke died on 1 October 1968 in Hamburg.
