The Cat Trail is over 100 km long and the K&P Trail is currently 60 km and being added to. Both are part of the TransCanada Trail.
One stipulation that is abused a bit is that ATVs or side-by-sides are not permitted on the Cataraqui Trail or this part of the K&P Trail. Head about 10 km further north on the K&P (north of the town of Verona) and you can use your ATV. Snowmobiles require a permit but not other users do. A portion of both trails is part of the TransCanada Trail.
The K&P (former Kingston & Pembroke Railroad) has seen a significant investment over the last decade. Over $1 million has been infused to buy the right-of-way and upgrade it including several key bridges. The County of Frontenac is the owner. There are several sections that total nearly 100 km. Some sections are still to be finished.
The Cataraqui Trail has been in use for about 20 years and is owned and maintained by the Cataraqui Conservation Authority. It runs 100+ km between Smiths Falls and Strathcona.
In both areas, it is the Lennox and Addington Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club (one of the many members of the OFSC - Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs) that maintains the trails.
