The Mountain View Cemetery is south of downtown Butte and is in Silver Bow County. There are approximately 10,377 interments in this beautiful and well maintained cemetery.
Established in 1910 by two businessmen, the cemetery is still maintained as a family cemetery. Huge trees are throughout the cemetery and is approximately 40 acres in size. There is a large veteran's section with traditional white headstones and a war memorial Dedicated May 30, 1948. It is dedicated To The Memory of Our Honored Dead Who rest in Foreign Places. Also there is a memorial for those Identified Dead of the Granite Mountain Fire on June 8, 1917.
Interred in the Mountain View Cemetery is the legendary Evel Knievel.
"Robert Craig Knievel (October 17, 1938 – November 30, 2007), professionally known as Evel Knievel was an American stunt performer and entertainer. Over the course of his career, he attempted more than 75 ramp-to-ramp motorcycle jumps; in 1974, he failed an attempted canyon jump across Snake River Canyon in the Skycycle X-2, a steam-powered rocket."
