The Hite House was built in 1853 is situated in the center of Stoystown Borough. The Hilt House served as a hotel for many years.

In 1920 a significant alteration occured when the hotel was greatly enlarged. Today the Hilt House looks much as it did in 1920, when it was still a well-known Lincoln Highway (US Route 30) hotel.

The Lincoln Highway was the first transcontinental motor vehicle highway and was used as the nation's major east-west route until the opening of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in 1940.

John H. Hite (1833-1901) operated the hotel until his death. The hotel which changed ownership many times since John Hite's death.

The Hilt House now renovated, was reopened as a personal care home in 1999.
