The Union is a mixed use center with retail, restaurants, and even places to live, providing much-needed services for the folks who like to live in a busy downtown area. The Tom Thumb itself is pretty big, as they're competing with the likes of Whole Foods and a few small upscale operations nearby. The selection is better than usual, and they've got some added bonuses, like the Grill Bar for burgers and sandwiches, Asian Infusion and Sake Bar, and the Union Tap, a combined beer and wine bar with a small selection of each. In the case of the latter, well, have a few, don't go overboard, and then grab a Starbucks to help you come back to 100%.

Nearby parking can be iffy, but fear not, there is an underground parking lot here. Be aware that if you don't go into the store and get your ticket validated, you'll be paying to park, probably more than what you'll spend on coffee. There's an attendant on duty, and when he gives you your ticket, he'll explain validation for you if you need it, directing you to the escalator and elevator and where to park. You'll notice plenty of signs reminding you to have your ticket with you for validation.

There's even a good number of places to plug in your gadgets to recharge or do work. For those who want to sit outside and enjoy Dallas city life, there's a patio facing Field Street, with a good view of the Dallas skyline. Food and/or Lunch Available: Snacks and lunch, but this is a grocery store, you can shop for what you like. Review: Really good service here, both from the building employees and the Starbucks itself. Had a couple of security guards make certain I had my parking ticket, and the gent who issued that to me was extremely friendly. They could teach some manners to the people in snooty Uptown just a few blocks away. As for the Starbucks employees, as someone who's in the service industry, I always appreciate it when someone whose hands are full acknowledges that you're there and tells you that they'll be right with you. Neither do I mind giving them a minute or two to finish up what they're doing so they can give me their full attention. I ordered a Peach Citrus White Tea to help me deal with the 91 degrees outside, and both employees behind the counter were great. And yes, they'll validate your parking ticket. I had toyed with shopping while I was here, but the validation made it easy for me to say "Eh, I'll get it later" so I could head out before rush hour traffic hit. Drive-Thru: Not listed
