"The suburb of Saint-Martin de Saint-Dié was on the other side of the Meurthe River in relation to the city's historic centre and its cathedral. It takes its name from the name of its first parish church, which was none other than the chapel of Petit-Saint-Dié founded by Deodat. The church was finally considered too small, dilapidated and far away, and the parishioners obtained the construction of a new church, which was delivered for worship in 1728.
The church of 1728 having been ravaged by fire, it was rebuilt and replaced by the current building, designed in 1896 by the Parisian architect Charles Heubès and inaugurated in 1902."
