The original Fort ligonier was conctructed in September 1758. During the eight years of its existence as a garrison, Fort Ligonier was never taken by an enemy. Fort Ligonier was decommissioned from active service in March 1766.
The reconstruction of Fort Ligonier presently occupies approximately 80% of the original site. The reconstruction of Fort Ligonier began in 1947.
