"On this grave site, often referred to as the "Herald Cemetery", there are 195 unknown dead. Of these, 172 were victims of the Herold massacre (visit link) in Aschendorfermoor prison camp (visit link) April 12 and 19, 1945, and 23 were victims of bombardment of the camp by British aircraft on 19 April.
After the dead had been buried in April 1945 at various points on the edge of the camp, took place in February 1946 her exhumation and her burial in the newly created cemetery at the former camp grounds."
