The Compass Inn stands in the village of Laughlintown and was built in 1799. When constructed in 1799, the Compass Inn served as a working clientele of teamsters and drovers.
The Compass Inn later upgraded to the more fashionable stagecoach trade in 1814. The building continued to function as an inn until 1862, when the decline of stagecoach service against the railroad, prompted the building's conversion into a store and residence.
In 1966 the Compass Inn was purchased by the Ligonier Valley Historical Society who restored it to its present condition.
