"Main dans la main, Meurthe-et-Mosellans et Vosgiens de la Vallée de la plaine se sont retrouvés dimanche au bord du cours d’eau la Plaine servant de limite territoriale entre les deux départements. Objectif : l’inauguration d’un pont sur la voie verte, au niveau du hameau la Trouche. Cette manifestation, orchestrée, en marge du 70e anniversaire de la libération de Raon-l’Étape, ne mettait pas à l’honneur n’importe quel pont mais un morceau du pont Bailey, posé sur la Meurthe le 19 novembre 1944 par l’armée américaine permettant de libérer Raon-l’Étape. Cette inauguration a aussi permis aux personnes de la vallée de rendre hommage aux soldats américains du premier bataillon du 399e régiment d’infanterie. Ces derniers, le 20 novembre 1944 au petit matin, ont affronté des conditions climatiques déplorables pour libérer, après des combats meurtriers, les habitants de cette vallée. Pour célébrer cet événement, on a pu voir une colonne de véhicules d’époque venant de Neuviller-lès-Badonviller, de chez Jean Miller. En tête de convoi et en uniforme d’époque, Roland Boulanger, d’Ancerviller. Juste avant de couper le ruban tricolore, des coups de canon ont été tirés et ont résonné de la Trouche à Raon-lès-Leau.
Pourquoi avoir installé ce pont sur la voie verte ? Tout simplement parce que cet axe est très fréquenté, tant par les locaux que par les touristes. Tous pourront se recueillir en passant sur cet élément d’architecture. Trois tabulaires ont été installés aux pieds de celui-ci afin que chacun puisse comprendre l’histoire de cette structure métallique recouverte de bois, intimement liée à l’épopée de la libération de ce morceau de France par les soldats américains."
Hand in hand, Meurthe-et-Mosellans and Vosgiens of the Valley of the plain were found Sunday at the edge of the river Plaine serving as territorial limit between the two departments. Objective: the inauguration of a bridge on the greenway, at the hamlet of La Trouche. This event, orchestrated on the fringes of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Raon-l'Étape, did not honor any bridge but a piece of the Bailey bridge, placed on the Meurthe on November 19, 1944 by the American army to free Raon-the stage. This inauguration also allowed the people of the valley to pay tribute to the American soldiers of the first battalion of the 399th Infantry Regiment. The latter, on November 20, 1944 in the early morning, faced deplorable climatic conditions to free, after deadly combats, the inhabitants of this valley. To celebrate this event, we could see a column of vintage vehicles from Neuviller-lès-Badonviller, Jean Miller. At the head of the convoy and in period uniform, Roland Boulanger, from Ancerviller. Just before cutting the tricolor ribbon, cannon shots were fired and sounded from La Trouche to Raon-lès-Leau.
Why install this bridge on the greenway? Simply because this axis is very frequented, as much by the locals as by the tourists. All will be able to gather while passing on this element of architecture. Three tabulars were installed at the feet of this one so that everyone can understand the history of this metal structure covered with wood, intimately linked to the epic of the liberation of this piece of France by the American soldiers.
