Despite the building now being used for financial services, the owners have taken care to ensure the neon Paramount sign still stands proudly above a busy Lethbridge street corner. I look forward to some nighttime photos!

According to (visit link) the Paramount Theatre opened on October 9, 1950. The architect was Victor M. Meech, in conjunction with the firm of Green-Blankenstein-Russell and Associates.

This theatre’s opening attraction in 1950 was “Fancy Pants” starring Bob Hope and Lucille Ball, a Paramount Film. This theatre was a partnership between A. W. Shackleford and Sons and Famous Players Canadian Corporation.

The exterior had a square corner tower feature, bearing the theatre name sign. Inside the auditorium, all seating was on a single floor. The auditorium was quite plain. It was twinned in 1968/1969.

It later became the Empire 4th Avenue on September 30, 2005 when Empire Theatres took it over from Famous Players. It closed in 2007. It is now a branch of ATB Financial (Alberta Treasury Bank).
