Organized in 1874. County seat Greensburg. Named after the Kiowa Indians.
Greensburg was named for stagecoach driver D. R. Green. He once ejected Carrie Nation from his coach after she snatched a cigar from his mouth and tossed it away.
On October 23, 1911, Greensburg's first speeding ticket involving an auto was issued for exceeding the speed limit of 10mph.

Greensburg, population 1,800 is the county seat of Kiowa County. The county took its name from one of the Plains Indians who roomed this section of Kansas.
"Completed in July 2009, the building was renovated with sustainable
and energy-saving technologies while
staying true to the structure’s original
design. It is designed to meet the U.S.
Green Building Council’s Leadership
in Energy and Environmental Design
(LEED®) Gold designation. If awarded,
it will be the first courthouse in Kansas
to achieve the rating.

modeling training to the design team
so that the most cost-effective energy
