FR Le grand ensemble de lavoirs de Puimoisson est exceptionnel pour la région.
Il révèle l'abondance des eaux qui l'alimentent.
La première fontaine de Puimoisson, simple abreuvoir protégé par une voûte, se situait au dessus des bassins actuels. Elle était alimentée par l'eau d'une source captée sous le village et conduite ensuite par une galerie souterraine ou «mine».

L'histoire de la commune, écrite au XIXe siècle, retrace la découverte en 1647 d'une source « aux eaux abondantes et limpides » qui permit de construire un réservoir et deux barquièu (ou bassins). Il devint possible, en plus, « d'arroser des jardins et de créer des prairies » en contrebas de la fontaine.

C'est seulement en 1858 que la grande fontaine ronde fut construite. Quatre ans plus tard, la série des lavoirs sera ajoutée de part et d'autre du grand bassin qui sert aussi d'abreuvoir.
Au xxe siècle, un système de bélier hydraulique - sorte de pompe autonome - permit, à partir du réservoir de la source, d'amener l'eau au centre du village.

Le nombre important de bassins va de pair avec une spécialisation de leurs fonctions. Ainsi le bassin situé à l'extrême gauche était réservé à la lessive du linge des malades. Un tel ensemble dénote une population nombreuse et peut nous laisser imaginer l'animation dont il était le centre...

It reveals the abundance of water that feeds it.
The first Puimoisson fountain, a simple water trough protected by a vault, was located above the current basins. It was supplied by water from a spring collected under the village and then led through an underground tunnel or "mine".

The history of the municipality, written in the 19th century, traces the discovery in 1647 of a spring "with abundant and clear waters" which made it possible to build a reservoir and two barques (or basins). It became possible, in addition, to "water gardens and create meadows" below the fountain.

It was only in 1858 that the large round fountain was built. Four years later, the series of washhouses was added on both sides of the large basin, which also served as a watering trough.
In the 20th century, a hydraulic ram system - a kind of autonomous pump - allowed, from the the spring reservoir, to bring the water to the centre of the village.

The large number of basins goes hand in hand with a specialisation of their functions. Thus the basin on the far left was reserved for washing the laundry of the patients. Such a complex denotes a large population and can let us imagine the animation of which it was the centre...
