"Built from 1626 to 1640 on the orders of Father Nicolas du Bois, it presents with its two lower turrets an imposing mass of 82 m high.

Listed as a historic monument since 1846, the Abbey Tower is the most unusual Baroque monument in northern Europe because it is a true architectural curiosity with its exuberant ornamentation, a mixture of piety and fantasy. It also contains a carillon of 48 bells.

Externally, it does not display a unity of style, but belongs like all the architectural mass of the abbey, to this movement of Counter-Reformation which followed in the XVII th the separation of the provinces of the Protestant Netherlands from the southern provinces , remained Catholic: movement characterized by a baroque, Flemish style contrasting with its opulence with Calvinist rigidity.

From the base to the summit, it has five levels belonging to the Tuscan (sandstone pile), Doric, Ionic, Corinthian and composite orders. On the second level you can see the perspective of a church with three naves or the temple of Jerusalem and the phrase "Do not make my father's house a trading house"; above, the intertwined letters of the word "Sanctus" and God the Father blessing. Many statues, some beheaded in 1789 adorn the tower. "

" Construite de 1626 à 1640 sur les ordres de l'abbé Nicolas du Bois, elle présente avec ses deux tourelles moins élevées une masse imposante de 82 m de haut.

Classée monument historique depuis 1846, la Tour Abbatiale est le plus insolite monument de style baroque de l'Europe du Nord car elle constitue une véritable curiosité architecturale par son ornementation exubérante, mélange de piété et de fantaisie. Elle renferme en outre un carillon de 48 cloches.

Extérieurement, elle n'affiche pas d'unité de style, mais appartient comme toute la masse architecturale de l'abbaye, à ce mouvement de Contre-Réforme qui suivit au XVII ème la séparation des provinces des Pays-Bas protestants des provinces du Sud, restées catholiques : mouvement caractérisé par un style baroque, flamand contrastant par son opulence avec la rigidité calviniste.

De la base au somment, elle présente cinq niveaux appartenant aux ordres toscan ( sur pilotis en grès ), dorique, ionique, corinthien et composite. On remarque au deuxième niveau, la perspective d'une église à trois nefs ou du temple de Jérusalem et cette phrase " Ne faites pas de la maison de mon père une maison de commerce " ; au-dessus, les lettres entrelacées du mot " Sanctus " et Dieu le Père bénissant. De nombreuses statues, certaines décapitées en 1789 ornent la tour. "
