At the outbreak of the second world war a corner of the Illogan (St Illogan)churchyard was set aside for the Commonwealth war dead, this also included our Allies.

It was not only a surprise to come across such a well kept memorial but also very moving, to read the names of those brave persons who gave there live to protect others.At the time I saw names from Australia Canada New Zealand and Poland. Sadly there were a number of headstone which bore no names..We will remember them...
The headstone of the fallen appear to be of Portland Stone inscription of each of the fallen including their nationality except for the 7 Unidentified.
The central main cross appears to made of of the same Portland stone with an inlaid cross
There is also within the plot one headstone cross which has been made from local granite.
