Whle the Dated Section of the Cooma Court House on the entry arch states 1887, it wasn't until July 1888 that the Court House was officially opened, so that is why this bronze plaque is for 1988, and it reads:

[Scales of Justice]
1888 - 1988

The Honourable John Dowd, LL.B., M.P
Attorney General of New South Wales
Unveiled this plaque on 20th July, 1988,
to commemorate the Centenary of
the Cooma Court House

Designed in the office of J. Barnet Colonial Architect

P.L. Cochran, MP T.W. Haines, LL.B.
Member for Monaro Secretary,
				Attorney General's Dept.

L.Kelly, R.D. Christie,
Government Architect Director of public Works

From a nearby Historical Marker is the following text:
"One of the fine colonial public buildings designed by James Barnet, the Cooma Courthouse, to the right of the post office, was built in 1887. It is considered to be a good example of the Victorian Mannerist style with a facade dominated by a Palladian entrance way, it was deigned to remind the citizenry of the authority of the law. Similar to many early Cooma buildings it is constructed of ashlar granite gneiss. The building has played a significant part in Cooma's administrative and social history and still operates as a courthouse today."
