This lake was part of controversy between the adjacent landowners and sportsman who liked to use the lake for fishing. It seems that Goose Lake was classified a 'non-meandering' lake, meaning when the area was surveyed the lake wasn't deep enough for the surveyors to go around it when surveying. Since then the lake has gotten deep enough for fish to habit the lake. The SD Game, Fish, and Wildlife Department closed the lake to sportsman because the landowners claimed it was private property. Since then the parties concerned have come to an arrangement and the sportsmen are again allowed to use the lake.
Walleye, northern pike, and yellow perch are the dominant species of fish inhabiting this lake.
