Long Description:
The nature reserve Geestmoor covers an area of ??260 hectares and represents a very heterogeneous mosaic of several small-scale biotope types. Among them are moortypotypical biotope types as well as agriculturally used areas. The west of the area is occupied by a contiguous high-moors complex on a white-peat stratum, where humid bell-heath bog degenerate stages and whistling moor stages occur. Due to their ecological and phytosanological proximity, they are spatially closely interlinked and often can not be clearly delimited. With both types of wool grass, bell heath, peat moss and rosemary heath they are considered valuable and worthy of protection. From north and west they are surrounded by birch pine forest. Larger contiguous areas are also the intensively used grassland areas in the eastern part of the moor area. In the center and in the north of the area there are several areas with initial stages of marshy moors, predominantly with gappy pioneer vegetation. In between are narrow and elongated birch forest areas. In the central area there are 2 soil-dry areas with prevailing broom heaths. In the next neighborhood is a small island with cotton grass. From the mapped biotope types, moor initiation stages, more humid bell-heath moor stages, moor birch pine forests and intensive grassland areas account for over 65% of the bog area. Wood grove stages, whistling moor stages and field hedges share similar areas (8%, 7% and 6%).
