[GER] Die Marmorfigur des St. Ansgar stammt aus dem Jahre 1874 und Stand einst an der Südfassade von Alt St. Nikolai in der Hamburger Innenstadt.
Die Kirche wurde während des zweiten Weltkrieges fast vollständig zerstört. Nur der Turm steht noch als Mahnmahl. Die Figur wurde im Jahre 2000 aufwändig restauriert.
Ansgar von Bremen (* 801; † 3. Februar 865 in Bremen; auch Anskar oder Anschar) war ein Mönch der Benediktiner, galt lange als Erzbischof von Hamburg und Bremen und Missionsbischof für Skandinavien. Die römisch-katholische und die orthodoxe Kirche verehren den „Apostel des Nordens“ als Heiligen, auch die evangelische und anglikanische Kirche erinnern an ihn.

[ENG] The marble statue of St. Ansgar dates back to 1874 and once stood on the south façade of Alt St. Nikolai in downtown Hamburg.
The church was almost completely destroyed during the Second World War. Only the tower still stands as a memorial. The figure was extensively restored in 2000.
Ansgar of Bremen (* 801; † 3. February 865 in Bremen; also Anskar or Anschar) was a monk of the Benedictines, long regarded as archbishop of Hamburg and Bremen and missionary bishop for Scandinavia. The Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches venerate the "Apostle of the North" as saints, and the Protestant and Anglican churches also remember him.
