This bell once hung atop a two-story public school which is no longer in existence. A painting of this school is located on the north side of the gymnasium building north of this school. It is mounted on two brick pedestals in front of the current high school.
This is a 24" school bell, with the yoke marked "C.S. Bell & Co. / Hillsboro, O." This company was started in 1858 by Charles Singleton Bell and made stoves and farm equipment. They later began making bells, with the peak decade of production - the 1880's. For a great article on this company, click here C.S. Bell
