Bob Palmer, a retired art professor and muralist has created murals in towns throughout Oklahoma, with his students. This mural is painted on the north, east and west walls of the Don Willis Gymnasium. Don Willis was a coach and teacher at Wellston High School from 1964 to 2001.

On the north wall, on a blue sky background are the words "Wellston Public Schools / Home of the Tigers". On this wall are individual pictures of items relating to the town and the schools. There are pictures of the current high school, a former Wellston school, and schools from five nearby towns. Items related to sports, academia, FFA, band and other school activities are shown.

On the east wall under the word "TIGERS" are items showing various athletic areas, such as baseball, football, and track and field. On the west wall at the entrance, the mural reads: "Welcome to Don Willis Gymnasium". A large tiger peeks out through what is made to appear as four tiger claw rips in the concrete wall. A picture of Don Willis with a basketball is shown, and a depiction of two prowling tigers.

This is quite an endeavor, and beautifully done in the Bob Palmer fashion. While in Wellston, be sure to also stop at the corner of Cedar and 2nd Streets to see the great Palmer murals there.
