At the entrance to the largest war cemetery in the Emsland stands next to the gate carved in stone inscription "Russian Military Cemetery Dalum" and on a bronze plaque behind the entrance: "Here lie in mass graves Soviet prisoners of war whose names are unknown. Their number is estimated at 8,000 to 16,000. "
According to this, only 37 Russians buried in individual graves are known by name, one Russian and one Italian, unknown nine prisoners of war buried in individual graves. Some were reburied after the war or transferred to the Catholic cemetery in Meppen.

Over a period of time or in individual cases, Soviet prisoners of war from the camps Wietmarschen, Alexisdorf, Bathorn and Groß Hesepe were buried in this cemetery next to the dead of the camp Dalum.
