297 deceased victims of the external command Meppen-Versen of Neuengamme Concentration Camp 1944/45 rest on the cemetery, probably built in 1944.
Their names and nationalities stand on four stone slabs in front of the entrance to the gravesite. Another 175 or so victims of this detachment, who had been buried here, were transferred to their homelands in 1953 following an exhumation. As a result, a large cross and several monuments that were erected after the war in this cemetery in German, Polish and Dutch with the names of the dead were removed.
In 1955, 71 "unknown" dead were buried here at the Börgermoor, Esterwegen and Neusustrum concentration camps in Bockhorst / Esterwegen cemetery (today the Esterwegen burial ground).
On a floor slab in front of the entrance is reminiscent of the Danish prisoners who suffered and died in Emsland, next to a small board to the Italian military internees.
