Pvt. Fredrick Beal Crocker of Sunderland, MA was killed on June 21, 1864 (note: the gravestone is inscribed Jan.) by a stray bullet while putting up tents after a skirmish with Confederate forces. His body was returned to Amherst and his is buried in North Cemetery. His headstone is inscribed:
