"Many times damaged and restored due to the location of the city on Canche historic boundary between the dioceses of Amiens south of Thérouanne and Boulogne north, it is a fine example of the Gothic of the sixteenth century. Burned in part in the seventeenth century, restoration to the economy in the eighteenth century, it is deeply reworked in the nineteenth century and consolidated in the twentieth.

Ravaged by the Franco-Spanish wars (1537-1543), the primitive church was destroyed around 1540. It was replaced under the Spanish occupation, on the very site of the foundations of the old. The new church unfortunately burns during the 30-year war in a fire that devastates the entire city. Today we can still see a deviation of the walls following the collapse of the vaults during this fire.

Its restoration is late and late, probably because of cash flow problems. It was however completed in 1764. Hardly restored, the building must face the Revolution. The law authorizes only one church in the communes of 6000 inhabitants, and the choice being made on Saint-Vaast, the goods of the church are seized and its door closed in 1791. The bells are removed. The church passes in the National Domain, under the charge of the municipality. Two of his bells will finally be sold in 1793.

It was finally auctioned on January 12, 1799, bought by locals in the hope of a return of the cult, which then resumed, at first clandestinely, then under the concordat of "chapel of relief" of the church Saint -Vaast. In 1854, it was finally restored and found its former prerogatives. "

" Maintes fois endommagée et restaurée du fait de la situation de la ville sur la Canche, limite historique entre les diocèses d’Amiens au sud, de Thérouanne puis de Boulogne au nord, elle est un bel exemple du gothique du XVIe siècle. Incendiée en partie au XVIIe siècle, remise en état à l’économie au XVIIIe siècle, elle est profondément remaniée au XIXe siècle et consolidée au XXe.

Ravagée par les guerres franco-espagnoles (1537-1543), l’église primitive est détruite vers 1540. Elle est remplacée sous l’occupation espagnole, à l’emplacement même des fondations de l’ancienne. La nouvelle église brûle malheureusement pendant la guerre de 30 ans dans un incendie qui dévaste toute la ville. On peut encore aujourd’hui constater une déviation des murs suite à l’effondrement des voûtes pendant cet incendie.

Sa restauration est tardive et ente, probablement à cause de problèmes de trésorerie. Elle est cependant achevée en 1764. A peine restauré, le bâtiment doit faire face à la Révolution. La loi n’autorisant qu’une seule église dans les communes de 6000 habitants, et le choix se portant sur Saint-Vaast, les biens de l’église sont saisis et sa porte fermée en 1791. On enlève les cloches. L’église passe dans le Domaine National, sous la charge de la municipalité. Deux de ses cloches seront finalement vendues en 1793.

Elle est finalement vendue aux enchères le 12 janvier 1799, achetée par des habitants dans l’espoir d’un retour du culte, qui reprend alors, d’abord clandestinement, puis sous le concordat de « chapelle de secours » de l’église Saint-Vaast. En 1854, elle est finalement restaurée et retrouve ses anciennes prérogatives. "
