L’ancien palais épiscopal, construit en 1728-1730 à l’initiative de l’évêque Thomas de Strickland, est devenu un bâtiment administratif après la Révolution française. Le plan en U de cette imposante construction classique est asymétrique dès l’origine.
Au centre de l’aile principale se détache le frontispice, et plus particulièrement son porche, ajouté par l’évêque de Lobkowitz (1772-1779). Celui-ci présente des arcades cintrées entre des pilastres ioniques, de ravissantes statues sur la balustrade en fer forgé, ainsi qu’un fronton courbe, où des armoiries ont fait place à une horloge. Au centre des ailes secondaires, on peut remarquer la porte moulurée ainsi que les consoles sculptées de la corniche. Au revers du mur de façade, une élégante galerie à tailloirs moulurés relie les deux ailes, clôturant la cour d’honneur. Sur les corniches se lisent des maximes en capitales dorées. La façade vers le jardin a malheureusement été dérochée.
Het voormalige bisschoppelijk paleis, gebouwd in 1728-1730 op initiatief van bisschop Thomas van Strickland, werd een administratief gebouw na de Franse Revolutie. Het U-vormige plan van deze imposante klassieke constructie is vanaf het begin asymmetrisch.
In het midden van de hoofdvleugel valt het voorpaneel op, en meer in het bijzonder het voorportaal, toegevoegd door de bisschop van Lobkowitz (1772-1779). Het heeft gewelfde bogen tussen de ionische pilasters, charmante beelden op de smeedijzeren balustrade en een gebogen fronton, waar de familiewapens zijn vervangen door een klok. In het midden van de secundaire vleugels zien we de voorgevormde deur en de uitgesneden consoles van de daklijst. Aan de achterzijde van de façademuur verbindt een elegante galerij met gegoten kleermakers de twee vleugels, die de binnenplaats omheint. Op de deklijsten staan de stelregels in gouden hoofdletters. Helaas is de gevel naar de tuin toe gestolen.
The former Episcopal Palace, built in 1728-1730 on the initiative of Bishop Thomas of Strickland, became an administrative building after the French Revolution. The U-shaped plan of this imposing classical construction is asymmetrical from the beginning.
In the middle of the main doorway, the front panel, and more particularly the front porch, added by the bishop of Lobkowitz (1772-1779), stands out. It has vaulted arches between the ionic pilasters, charming statues on the wrought-iron balustrade and a curved pediment, where the family coats of arms have been replaced by a bell. In the middle of the secondary wings we see the preformed door and the carved consoles of the cornice. At the back of the façade wall, an elegant gallery with cast tailors connects the two wings, which encircle the courtyard. On the cornices are the maxims in golden capitals. Unfortunately, the facade towards the garden has been stolen.
