This pillar is situated on the summit of the 221 metre Mount Hill near the town of Cupar in Fife. The hill is very prominent due to the monument which also lies on the summit, a tall pillar commemorating the 4th Earl of Hopetoun, making the hill a landmark from many miles away. The hill is wooded all around apart from the summit and views are restricted. The pillar has slight damage on the corners at the top.
STEEPNESS: The pathway to the top takes a meandering route and avoids any severe steepness.
TERRAIN: A manageable track leads to the top with only a few muddy sections.
ACCESSIBILITY: A narrow minor road lies within a mile of the summit to the south-east where the track to the top begins, although parking is limited. From Cupar, three miles away, country roads lead to the start point, but take a meandering route. The track to the summit is public right of way.
NAVIGATION: The track to the top is well signposted, however the clear summit area is surrounded by a deer fence and the only access is through a gate on the western side which leads up to the monument. The pillar lies beyond on the east side.
DANGER: None if staying on the signposted track.
