In the Netherlands, case law is organized in the following way: A case starts at a court, where the judge makes his decision. If the suspect does not agree with the verdict , he can appeal at the court of justice. After the trial there, the final judgment follows. Finally, there is the Supreme Court. This can decide whether a process must be repeated or not. Until 2002 we still had another kind of court in the Netherlands. This was the Kantongerecht. Here the simple criminal cases from the region were dealt with.
The building you are standing in front of here is the "Kantongerecht" of Groenlo. Groenlo had a "Kantongerecht" from 1838 to 2002. This specific building dates from 1907.
The building was sold by the Dutch State in 2015. It is now occupied by a private individual who also uses it as an office.
